A 25-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle collision in northeast Edmonton yesterday at around 5:50 p.m., marking the city’s 21st fatal traffic incident this year.
According to the Edmonton Police Service, a Nissan Versa was travelling north on 82 Street and had entered the intersection to turn left onto 167 Avenue. As the car began its turn, it crossed paths with a southbound Suzuki GSXR600 motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the front passenger side of the vehicle, and the rider was thrown from the bike.
Witnesses rushed to assist and began CPR before fire crews arrived and took over life-saving efforts. Paramedics pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was transported to hospital for treatment.
The Edmonton Police Service’s Major Collision Investigation Section (MCIS) is leading the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest speed may have played a role in the deadly crash.
Acting Staff Sergeant Kam Patel of MCIS acknowledged the tragedy’s toll on the community, especially those first on scene.
“This is the 21st life lost on our roads this year. Behind every number is a family changed forever,” Patel said in a statement. “These collisions don’t just impact families, they leave a mark on those who respond to them. We want to thank the witnesses who stepped in to perform CPR, and the first responders who did everything they could on the scene.”
Police have not released the name of the deceased rider.
So far in 2025, Edmonton has seen a steady rise in deadly road incidents, prompting renewed concern over driver behaviour, particularly involving speed and aggressive manoeuvres.
