Police Provide Update on Canada-Wide Warrant Issued for Suspect in Murder Case

York Regional Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for 47-year-old Zhixiong Marko Hu, who is now wanted for first-degree murder in connection with the tragic death of Yuk-Ying Anita Mui. The case has drawn widespread attention, and authorities are urging the public to assist in locating the suspect as they intensify their search for justice.

The case first came to light on Friday, August 9, 2024, when Mui, a resident of the Greater Toronto Area, was reported missing by her family. Concern grew when they had not heard from her since 11 a.m. on that day. The search for Mui intensified when her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 sport utility vehicle (SUV) was found later that evening. The vehicle was located near the intersection of Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue in Toronto, raising alarms about her well-being.

Three days later, on August 12, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made a grim discovery in Parry Sound. Burned human remains were found near Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400, an area known for its dense woods and isolation. The remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Coroner for identification, and on August 21, 2024, the coroner confirmed the worst fears—it was indeed the body of Yuk-Ying Anita Mui.

Following the identification of Mui’s remains, the investigation gained momentum. York Regional Police, working closely with the OPP, began piecing together the events leading to her death. Through their efforts, they discovered that suspects were in possession of property belonging to Mui. This led to the arrest and charging of three youths involved in firearms and fraud-related offences. The nature of their involvement has not been disclosed, but these arrests marked a crucial step forward in the case.

As the investigation continued, the police identified a fourth suspect connected to Mui’s disappearance. On August 27, 2024, York Regional Police issued a Canada-wide warrant for Zhixiong Marko Hu, charging him with first-degree murder. Hu, a 47-year-old resident of Markham, is now the primary suspect in the case.

Investigators have also linked two vehicles to Hu, both of which have been seized by the police. The first is a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, bearing Ontario license plate CWHW720. The second is a grey 2021 Porsche Cayenne SUV, with Ontario license plates CTZT172 and CHCD989.

Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding these vehicles, especially if they were seen in suspicious circumstances around the dates in question.
