Police Investigate Suspicious Death in Bowness

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is investigating the suspicious death of a woman in the northwest community of Bowness. Officers were called to a residence in the 4600 block of 73 Street N.W. at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, following reports of a woman in medical distress.

Upon arrival, police found the woman, who was in her 40s, in critical condition. Despite the efforts of first responders to administer lifesaving measures, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Inspector Krista Ran of the CPS provided a brief statement: “Upon arrival, police located the woman on scene and despite lifesaving efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries.”

The CPS Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Due to the preliminary nature of the investigation, further details have not been disclosed. An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 9 a.m. to determine the exact cause of death.

Residents in the typically quiet community of Bowness expressed shock and concern over the incident. “It’s really unsettling to have something like this happen so close to home,” said one neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous. “We’re used to a peaceful neighbourhood, and seeing this much police activity is alarming.”

The CPS is urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers, and any relevant details, no matter how minor they may seem, are encouraged to be shared with investigators.
