Edmonton Police Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving Teen Cyclist

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is conducting a thorough investigation following a tragic early-morning hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a 13-year-old male cyclist.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:05 a.m. today. Southeast Branch patrol officers were dispatched to the intersection of 48 Street and 34 Avenue in response to an emergency call regarding a young cyclist who had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, paramedics found the teen in severe medical distress. Despite their best efforts, the young victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after being found.

According to initial reports from EPS, the collision took place in the eastbound lanes of 34 Avenue, just east of 48 Street. The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) was immediately notified and has since taken over the investigation.

Investigators have identified the suspect vehicle as a blue 2014-2018 Mazda 3 sedan or hatchback, which sustained noticeable damage to its front end and driver side. The EPS is urging anyone with information about the vehicle or its driver to come forward.

Authorities are particularly interested in obtaining dashcam footage from drivers who were in the Mill Woods area around the time of the incident. Such footage could be crucial in identifying the vehicle and driver responsible for this fatal hit-and-run.

Edmontonians should be reminded that any piece of information, no matter how small it might seem, could be vital in helping us solve this case and bring justice to the victim and his family.

As the investigation continues, the Edmonton Police Service extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young victim. The EPS remains committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding this tragic event and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
