A shootout between a suspect and Montreal police left three men hospitalized with serious injuries in Dollard-des-Ormeaux on Sunday night.
According to Quebec’s office of independent investigations (BEI), the altercation began on Davignon St. near de Salaberry Blvd. A woman called 911 yesterday, around 10:45 p.m, reporting a dispute and hearing gunshots. Upon arrival, police found that one of the individuals involved in the dispute had left the residence.
The armed suspect encountered a motorist outside the house, brandishing a firearm and forcing the driver to flee. The suspect then approached a second vehicle, where three men were standing nearby.
As police arrived, an exchange of gunfire ensued between the officers and the armed suspect. The suspect was struck at least once and was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Two of the three men near the vehicle were also hit by gunfire and were initially believed to be in critical condition. However, their injuries are now considered non-life-threatening.
Initial reports suggest that as many as 40 shots were fired during the incident. The BEI, responsible for investigating cases involving police operations that result in injury or death, has assigned seven investigators to this case.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The BEI and Sûreté du Québec are working diligently to piece together the events that led to the shootout and ensure accountability for the actions taken.
