A tragic accident has claimed the life of a teenager in the northwest community of Bowness on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. when the teenager was struck by a Canadian Pacific (CP) Rail train on the tracks near the Bow River, east of 85th Street Northwest.
Calgary Police Service (CPS) responded promptly to the distress call. According to their report, the teenager was among three individuals present on the tracks when the train approached. While two of the teens managed to jump to safety, one was unable to escape in time and was hit by the train.
Emergency services were quick to act, with the injured teen being rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the swift medical response, the teenager succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.
CPS has concluded its investigation into the incident, categorizing it as non-criminal. In a brief statement, they confirmed the unfortunate event, emphasizing that it was a tragic accident. “This appears to be a non-criminal incident,” said a CPS spokesperson, expressing condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
The Calgary Fire Department, which also responded to the scene, provided additional details. “Three teens were on the track when the train approached. Two were able to jump off, but one was hit,” they reported.
