Surrey RCMP Seizes Firearms After Social Media Video

Surrey, BC– The Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have seized several firearms in South Surrey after a video surfaced online showing a group of people dancing with weapons yesterday.

On the morning of August 1, 2024, Surrey RCMP became aware of a video circulating on social media. The video showed a group of individuals dancing with firearms, purportedly filmed in Surrey.

The Surrey RCMP South Community Response Unit (SCRU) took the lead on the investigation. By later that day, SCRU had confirmed the address where the video was potentially filmed. The investigation was conducted under Section 86 of the Criminal Code, which deals with offenses related to the careless use, storage, and handling of firearms.

Superintendent Harm Dosange, Community Services Officer for the Surrey RCMP, stated, “Public safety is our top priority and our officers worked quickly to seize the firearms in question.”

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on August 1, 2024, SCRU officers arrived at the identified property and seized several firearms from the property owner. The seizure marks a critical step in ensuring that the weapons are not misused or pose any further threat to the community.

The investigation is ongoing as SCRU continues to work towards identifying the individuals in the video. The unit is collaborating with multiple partner agencies to advance the investigation. Superintendent Dosange emphasized the importance of community involvement in such cases, urging anyone with information regarding the incident or the identity of those in the video to come forward.

Superintendent Dosange highlighted the importance of community collaboration, stating, “We understand this incident was extremely alarming to the community at large. Our officers are dedicated to working closely with residents to ensure that such incidents are addressed swiftly and effectively.”
