An autopsy has confirmed that the death of a 29-year-old man, Khalid Abdirizak, was a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound. Edmonton police are actively seeking witnesses who may have information about the events leading up to the shooting.
In the early hours of Thursday, July 18, 2024, Abdirizak was dropped off at the Royal Alexandra Hospital at approximately 3:30 a.m. He was suffering from injuries consistent with a shooting. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy today, on Friday, July 19, 2024. The results confirmed that Abdirizak died from a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators have determined that the shooting occurred at an underground and unlicensed nightclub operating under the names “One Love Club” or “Vibe Place Nightclub,” located at 10657 116 Street. The nightclub, which was functioning illegally, is now at the center of the investigation.
“At this stage of the investigation, we are looking to speak to anyone who was present at this nightclub during the early hours of Thursday, July 18,” said EPS Homicide Staff Sgt. Rob Bilawey. “Anybody with knowledge about what led up to this incident is asked to contact police immediately.”
The police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or who has any information regarding the activities at the nightclub on the night of the incident to come forward. Witnesses can contact the Edmonton Police Service directly or submit information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
As the investigation continues, police are also examining the broader circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how Abdirizak ended up at the nightclub and the potential motives behind the attack. The police have not yet disclosed any information about potential suspects.
