The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has confirmed the identity and cause of death in a recent suspicious death case that has drawn significant attention.
On Monday, May 27, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Northwest Branch patrol officers responded to a weapons complaint in the area of 127 Avenue and 118 Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male with a serious injury. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) quickly transported the individual to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, and identified the deceased as 37-year-old Jordan Ashley Belhumeur. The autopsy revealed that Belhumeur died from a gunshot wound, and the manner of death has been classified as homicide.
Belhumeur was a known suspect previously sought by police. Earlier this year, on March 14, 2024, EPS issued a statement seeking public assistance in locating Belhumeur, who was wanted on multiple warrants related to a violent assault that occurred on March 11, 2024. The warrants included charges of assault causing bodily harm, robbery, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and intimidation. Additionally, Belhumeur was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation. He was considered violent and dangerous, and his whereabouts were a major concern for law enforcement at the time.
Homicide Section investigators are now seeking further information regarding Belhumeur’s death. They are particularly interested in any witness accounts or video footage from security cameras in the vicinity of 127 Avenue and 118 Street around the time of the incident. Residents in the area are urged to review their surveillance footage and report any unusual activity to the EPS.
