Canada has pledged $5 million in humanitarian aid to provide immediate relief to the flood-affected regions of northeastern Libya. The devastating flooding, a consequence of Storm Daniel, has claimed lives and wreaked havoc on the nation’s infrastructure, leaving thousands of displaced individuals in dire need.
Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development expressed deep concern for the people of Libya by emphasizing the urgency of the situation, stating that the funds would be directed towards delivering life-saving assistance. This assistance encompasses crucial elements such as emergency healthcare, clean water, sanitation facilities, hygiene supplies, shelter, and essential non-food items.
The aid is specifically tailored to address the pressing needs outlined in appeals by the United Nations and the Red Cross/Red Crescent, targeting the populations most affected by the catastrophic flooding. With many families displaced from their homes and basic necessities in short supply, this funding will serve as a beacon of hope in their time of need.
